'Made in USA' is a hot issue in the United States (US) lately. US President Donald Trump does want a big company, especially Apple to make their products in their own hometown.
In an interview with Jim Cramer of CNBC TV this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that his company is allocating funds to promote further manufacturing in the US. Funds invested around USD 1 billion for the initial stage.
A statement about manufacturing in the US Cook answered when Cramer asked what Apple did to create jobs.
Cook responded by saying that Apple has so far created 2 million jobs in the US. All employees are not always using Apple's attributes as their uniform. Like most technology companies, Apple employees are scattered in many professions.
There are about 25,000 employees working on research and development, 6,000 at the Apple factory in Austin, Texas, plus all employees in the retail section of the Apple Store. All of these employees touched a figure of approximately 2 million today.
But Cook also calculates suppliers in the US that make components here, such as Corning glass and 3M adhesive used on iPhone and iPad. Cook also gave appreciation to the developer community.
"This community of developers is almost 1.5 million now - they come from very small, medium to large businesses, they make apps and change the world," he said.
"We give them platforms, and we create amazing stores that enable them to sell their products in 155 countries around the world. This is an empowering experience to be a tremendously difficult business," he said.
As quoted from PC World, Sunday (11/06/2017), Apple is heavily investing in the community of developers in various ways. Starting from building a developer center in India to the smallest such as offering scholarships to study at the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) annual event and allowing new developers to play games before getting acquainted with the Developer Program.
Cook also told me that Apple will allocate more money to teach people how to coding, until finally he talked about manufacturing in the US.
"In another category, manufacturing, we asked ourselves: 'How can we get more people to do further manufacturing in the US? And I am proud to tell you that we currently have special manufacturing funding.First step, we allocate USD 1 billion, "he said.
These funds will be invested in small-scale manufacturing companies in the US. Cook said that Apple immediately announced its first investment for the program this month as well.
This Apple-funded manufacturing will focus on creating components, but it is expected that in the future it will do further production for a number of Apple gadgets such as smart bands for Apple, HomeKit devices, wireless charging accessories, and others.
